The Story of Lived Experience

One of the principles at the heart of Sober Crowd is that lived experience matters.
Â
Experience from group leaders has taught us that while professional support is valuable, there is something uniquely powerful about talking to someone who has walked the same path. Someone who understands the fear, the setbacks, the victories and the everyday reality of choosing not to drink because they have lived it themselves.

That is why we are proudly a lived-experience-led organisation. Our community is built by people who understand alcohol-free living, either because they are walking the road of recovery themselves or they have made the choice to live without alcohol for a number of other reasons.Â
We are also proud members of the College of Lived Experience Recovery Organisations (CLERO), reflecting our commitment to the value and importance of lived experience in recovery. We will soon appear on their map of LEROs.

At Sober Crowd, nobody is expected to have all the answers. We simply believe that nobody should have to do it alone.
